Trident debate

I attended the rally at Parliament Square tonight for a couple of hours. Heard various speakers which included John McDonnell, Michael Meacher (who mentioned the Iraq war... remind us how you voted again, Michael..), Kate Hudson (CND), Keith Sonnet (Unison), Barry Camfield (T&G) and Lindsay German.

There were a couple of hundred people at the rally and it was good natured. The vote went: 409 MPs voted for Trident with 161 against. Majority of 248.

I was intersted to see that the poll on the BBC webiste showed 55% in favour of replacement, whereas the poll by our local paper showed 775 against.

I wonder if the BBC poll was distorted by overseas votes?

The BBC website attracts right-wing people (see the comments usually consistently right wing).

Indeed, wheras the swindon Advertiser is mainly read by militant class warriors :o)

I have noticed in thr past that on foreign policy and defence issues the BBC site gets a lot of comments from Americans and the type of Brit ex-patriate who wears a blazer, has a picture of the queen above the fireplace, and enjoys a g&T with the mem-sahib.

Compared to the BBC the Swindon Dreadnought..sorry Advertiser probably is read by class fighters (who probably like their G&T as well..)
